Hey Allyn, Would it be ok if i aerate and overseed my lawn 2 days before
rain going to be everyday for the whole week?

Just had 3 weeks of non stop rain and I had to mow the grass when it was
wet, so I just discharged the clippings and made my mower all dirty so I
had to hose it off… I don’t like mowing wet grass lol.

Great info, however, I have always thought that any weed killer would keep
seed from germinating. On all of the weed and feed products I have ever
used/ looked at info about, it says to wait a period of time before
planting seed due to this very fact. Any points here?

Hi Allyn,
I have been following your videos religiously. I put down Lesco Starter
Fert & then slice seeded with Pennington’s Rebel Turf Type Tall Fescue &
watered for 3 weeks straight. Very Very little grew. In other parts of the
lawn which had previously been seeded with Jonathan Green Fast Grow Seed,
grew very well.
I tested the soil for PH, N, K & P. The PH was 7.0, the N, K&P all seemed
to be adequate.

Any thoughts as to why the grass didn’t grow?

Thanks

I have a weed control questions, I live in Northern VA and I was wondering
if during step step 1 can I go over the whole yard with weed control using
some weed and feed product (Scotts)? Two years ago (spring before last), I
failed to treat my lawn during the previous fall and I had one heck of weed
invation on my lawn by late spring early summer. This year I had no such
problem however I was paying a lawn service to do applications. So should I
do only spot treatments now and wait till the spring to do the full weed
and seed? What is your reccomendtion.

i have a 3/4 acre lawn in mid missouri. i core aerated, overseeded (earth
carpet green resistor), and spread the LESCO starter fertilizer, and now my
lawn looks much better. next time i will add milorganite if funds allow.
thanks for the tips!

Hey love the channel learning a lot. I’m going to aerate my lawn this
weekend and start this program. I have a lot of crabgrass and its starting
to brown now. Would I spray them down with the weed spray too? This is my
first house and want a great lawn. Its been a battle so far but watching
your videos has definitely helped me out.

Thanks
Rob

Hi there Allyn! I really appreciate the step-by-step recovery vids! I have
a 35-40 degree hill for the majority of my backyard. Would core aeration
even be possible for that incline? I’ve picked up how important it is,
especially since I don’t irrigate back there. Second question, I am one of
those guys that would like to go as organic as possible. I moved into a
house with an unhealthy lawn with a good amount of weeds. If I don’t
handcan it this fall, would the other steps naturally choke out the weeds
as the lawn becomes more healthy? Or would you recommend using 2,4-D this
year and hopefully be able to do a more natural pre-emergent in the spring
instead of using synthetic pesticides? I do like how you take the spot
approach versus blanketing the lawn with chemicals.

Hi Allyn,

I’m about to start aerating, seeding, and fertilizing next weekend
following your recommended tips. I have primarily tall fescue grass
(located in northern VA), what height should I mow my grass before
aerating? Should I mow at the lowest setting? Right now my grass is about 4
inches tall.

Al,

Should you get the utilities marked prior to aerating?

Hi Allyn – Half of my lawn is Zoysia (I live in MD) and I’m not sure what
the rest of the grass type would be. Is there anything special I need to do
with Zoysia grass, or can I use all 3 steps of this program? I used weed
and feed in the spring, mow tall and mulch. Thanks for the videos. Keep em
coming.

Randy

Hello again Alan,
Please recommend me a great weed killer that also works for crabgrass,
there are many out there with no very good reviews.

Allyn,

Just a quick question, won’t the broadleaf weed killer harm the grass seeds
in the areas where u sprayed the weed killer? I’m assuming all the steps in
part 1 are done on the same day (aeration, starter fert, milorganite, seed,
weed killer?)

Is it too late for step #1, or what can I do to prep for summer for thick
green grass?

Now is the time to start prep for a nice fall lawn. My bud +Allyn Hane lays
it out perfectly in this video and he’s using a test lawn to show us all
how to be the envy of the neighborhood. He only has the best lawn care
videos on the net.
